Insurance in New Mexico

Insurance in New Mexico is different from other states because of the high rate of DUI’s in the state combined with the high rate of uninsured motorist in the state.  New Mexico has consistently had one of the highest rates of DUI in the country for several decades now.  I won’t pretend to suggest anything to solve all of the socioeconomic problems in the state.   I just want to inform you of it’s impact on your financial life.

Additionally, the percentage of uninsured motorist in the state averages about 40%, that means that if someone else causes you to have an accident then it is practically the flip of a coin whether or not he/she will have insurance, and therefore the means to pay for the damages caused.

First of all, the whole reason that insurance is purchased is to transfer risk from the owner of the policy to the insurance company.  It doesn’t make sense to purchase insufficient insurance coverage, or enough coverages like uninsured motorist coverage, and it negates the whole reason that insurance is purchased.  Buy enough insurance and buy the right coverages.
